Dalaus’ hand surgery progress

Dalaus, is an Ugandan child who had his hand injured when he picked up a toy that turned out to be a bomb.  Your generosity funded the surgery that saved, at least partially, his hand.   These photos were taken at the Merembe Clinic on the day he recently had his wounds cleaned and bandaging changed.

AN UPDATE

Many of you have asked why we did not start fundraising the day of the volcano eruption. Our answer is that emergency relief is not what we do and we chose to step aside and let those foundations who do it well obtain the resources they needed.
As we all know, there is always a huge initial outpour of support for disaster victims. We also know it does not last and when that initial relief effort is over and it comes to reconstruction the faucet has been turned off.

BUT THAT IS WHEN OUR WORK STARTS

We are asking now for your support because when the more than 3000 survivors leave their temporary shelters, they will have nothing to return to. The land they once owned is now uninhabitable. Their work tools, animals, and housewares are all gone. They have lost everything including loved ones.

Join us in helping the survivors reconstruct their lives.
Depending on your generosity and available funds, it could be just a house for one family ($4,000) or beds for many. As always, 100% of your donation will go into these projects. Our administrative costs are covered through the sale of handcrafts and registration fees paid by our mission participants.

Make a difference project building a greenhouse in Peru’s High Andes

P1010954

Greenhouses are the only way to grow a variety of nutricious vegetables for communities in Peru’s High Andes where the climate is harsh, the air thin, and poor soil means malnutrition is a constant problem for children and adults.

We are hoping to raise $3,000 and  build a greenhouse for a charitable hostel in Amparae, a community located 12,000 ft above sea level. The hostel provides housing to 45 children from poor communities who would otherwise have to walk for two hours to get to school. Most of the children suffer from malnutrition. The greenhouse will add vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, squash, tomatoes and broccoli to their diet.

We invite you to give these children a healthier start in life. Please contact us at travel@global-legacy.org if you wish to donate or participate in the mission to build the greenhouse. A date for the trip will be set soon after the funds are raised.
