Hi - my name is Nazario and I am 19 years old. My birthday is July 25. I was born in a small village, El Tesoro in Tecpan Guatemala. My family works in the fields, where they grow corn and vegtables. When I was 2 years old my mother died, but I am not sure why. She was very young. My father remarried and one day, when I was 7, my step mother sent me to take the corn to be ground so she could make tortillas. This was the first time I had gone to the corn-grinder by myself. When I got to the grinding machine, I found one of my friends there. We started to play while we waited our turn to have our corn ground into masa. It was a cold day and I wore a jacket. I got close to the machine to warm up, and kept playing. All of a sudden my jacket got caught in the machine and pulled me over two times. When the man turned the machine off, I realized that I did not have arms, and I had a big bang on my head. The people and firemen, took me to the national hospital 7 hours away, they took my arms in a plastic bag. When we got to the hospital, the doctors gave me stitches and medicine, but told me that they could not put my arms back on. I was very lucky that some generous people helped me get my first arms when I was 8. I was very little and learned how to use by prosthetic arms to do everything. I am now very independent. I am in high school, study Englsih, and learn a lot about computers. I want to succeed and go to University. Right now my arms are too small, and they don’t fit me. I miss having them and am very grateful to those who will help me get new ones. God bless you, |
